SB74 Summary

• Continues the existence and functioning of the State Pilotage Commission under Sections 33-4-1 to 33-4-57, Code of Alabama 1975, until October 1, 2020.

• Increases the State Pilotage Commission membership from three to four members, adding a retiree from Navy or Coast Guard active duty, or a person with extensive maritime industry experience (excluding steamboat company or bar pilot experience).

• Requires the commission membership to be inclusive and reflect the racial, gender, geographic, urban/rural, and economic diversity of the state.

• Maintains existing membership positions: one steamship company official maintaining an office in Mobile, one active licensed bar pilot, and one business person or licensed professional.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
