• Recognizes and celebrates the Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA) for 50 years of service and educational excellence to Alabama.

• ASFA was established in 1972 following an after-school arts program that began in 1967-1968 under Governor Lurleen Wallace, championed by Representative J.T. "Jabo" Waggoner.

• ASFA serves grades 7-12 students across Alabama with intensive study in six disciplines: Creative Writing, Dance, Mathematics, Science, Music, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts, combined with core academic courses.

• The 2017 senior class of 70 students achieved an average ACT score of 26.8, earned $13 million in merit scholarships averaging $200,000 each, and were accepted to 124 colleges and conservatories.

• Alumni have achieved national and international recognition including Emmy Awards, authorship of The Hunger Games trilogy, NASA engineering positions, and careers as Billboard music artists, dance company founders, and nonprofit CEOs.
