HB159 Summary

• Adds Section 16-1-2.3 to Alabama Code establishing plumbing fixture requirements for public and private high school sports stadiums, applying to existing stadiums requiring fixture changes and all newly constructed stadiums.

• Men's restrooms must provide one toilet per 200 seats (first 1,500 seats), one per 250 seats (next 1,500 seats), and one per 500 seats (remainder), plus one lavatory per 300 seats.

• Women's restrooms must provide one toilet per 75 seats (first 1,520 seats), one per 125 seats (next 1,520 seats), and one per 175 seats (remainder), plus one lavatory per 300 seats.

• Allows urinals to be installed or substituted for plumbing fixtures in men's restrooms according to state building and plumbing code ratios.

• Effective immediately following passage and gubernatorial approval, does not supersede Americans with Disabilities Act requirements or other building codes unrelated to gender-based fixture quantities.
