HB196 Summary

• Amends Section 11-98-4.1 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to grant the statewide 911 Board authority to administer a statewide voice and data system using emerging communication technologies.

• Authorizes the 911 Board to establish policies and procedures to fund grants and advisory services for the various 911 districts in the state, contingent on available funding.

• Requires the 911 Board to develop and publish an annual report on the status of 911 service in Alabama, distributed to district boards through the Alabama Association of 911 Districts.

• Maintains the 911 Board's existing duties to administer the 911 Fund, distribute revenue from the statewide 911 charge, and adopt rules in accordance with the Alabama Administrative Procedure Act.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
