HB221 Summary

• Nonresidents operating motor vehicles registered in another state within Alabama must maintain liability insurance that conforms to the requirements of the state where the vehicle is registered.

• Nonresident vehicle operators must carry evidence of liability insurance in the vehicle, either conforming to Alabama requirements or the requirements of the state of vehicle registration.

• Evidence of insurance may be presented in tangible or electronic format, including cellular phone displays, and law enforcement cannot access other device content when viewing insurance proof.

• Presenting false, altered, counterfeit, or otherwise invalid insurance evidence is a violation of Section 32-7A-16.

• The act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
