HB224 Summary

• Amends Section 28-3A-17.1 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to modify entertainment district provisions related to alcoholic beverage sales and consumption.

• Authorizes Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, Class 4, and Class 5 municipalities, as well as municipalities with incorporated arts councils, main street programs, or downtown development entities to establish entertainment districts.

• Allows patrons to exit licensed premises with open containers of alcoholic beverages and consume them anywhere within the entertainment district boundaries, but prohibits bringing containers from other licensed premises into a new location.

• Increases the number of allowable entertainment districts for a Class 8 municipality located on an island in a county with a Class 2 municipality from two to three districts, with specific licensing requirements for each.

• Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
