HB277 Summary

• Amends Section 41-4-284 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to delete the requirement that the Telecommunications Division of the Department of Finance destroy and discard telephone usage records six months after billing payment.

• Removes subsection (9) which mandated destruction of telephone usage records, effective July 1, 1992, allowing the division to retain these records indefinitely.

• Maintains all other duties of the Telecommunications Division including establishing telecommunications systems, approving acquisitions, coordinating systems across state agencies, and providing consultation on telecommunications management.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.

• Passed by the House on May 16, 2019 and the Senate on May 23, 2019.
