HB29 Summary

• Prohibits any person or entity from intentionally causing misleading caller identification information to be displayed during telephone solicitations to residential, commercial, or cellular subscribers in Alabama.

• Creates an exception for solicitations where the actual name and telephone number of the party on whose behalf the call is made has been substituted for the service provider's information.

• Exempts telephone solicitations made on behalf of charitable institutions from the prohibition on misleading caller identification.

• Establishes that violations of this provision shall also be considered violations of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act, enabling enforcement by the Alabama Attorney General and district attorneys.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
