• Expands the scope of podiatric practice in Alabama to include treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower leg, rather than only the foot.

• Adds detailed definitions of "foot, ankle, and lower leg" to specify anatomical boundaries, including the 28 bones of the foot, the ankle joint, the tibia and fibula, Achilles tendon, and soft tissues.

• Updates treatment definitions (medical, surgical, mechanical, manipulative, and electrical) to apply to the foot, ankle, and lower leg.

• Limits surgical treatment to the area below the anterior tibial tubercle and prohibits podiatrists from amputating the leg in its entirety or any portion of the leg.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
