HB319 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Section 45-26-130 to allow the Elmore County Commission to assign additional duties to the county engineer or chief engineer beyond road, bridge, and ferry maintenance and construction.

• Authorizes the county engineer or chief engineer to employ, supervise, and direct deputies and assistants necessary to perform all duties assigned by the county commission.

• Requires the county engineer or chief engineer to be a thoroughly qualified and competent professional engineer meeting state qualifications and to serve at the pleasure of the county commission.

• Establishes that the county engineer or chief engineer may perform engineering and surveying services, maintain accounting records, supervise road construction and maintenance, and serve as custodian of county road machinery and equipment.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
