Amends Section 34-23-8 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to allow pharmacists to dispense either brand name or generic equivalent drugs unless the physician or practitioner indicates otherwise.

Removes the requirement that written prescriptions contain two signature lines designated "dispense as written" and "product selection permitted."

Eliminates the requirement that oral prescriptions must specify whether a generic drug product may be dispensed.

Requires pharmacists to record and document the actual drug product dispensed, including manufacturer or distributor information on the prescription form and label.

Maintains a penalty of up to $1,000 fine for violations of the section.
