AL HB353

Authorizes the Speaker of the House of Representatives, President Pro Tempore of the Senate, Chairs of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees, and the Legislative Council to file amicus curiae briefs without leave of court in any appeal.

Allows amicus briefs to be filed at any time prior to the court's issuance of the certificate of judgment, notwithstanding existing Alabama Code provisions or rules of appellate procedure.

Applies only to amicus briefs prepared and filed by the Legislative Services Agency staff for appellate matters on or after the effective date of the act.

Supersedes any inconsistent rules of appellate procedure adopted by the Alabama Supreme Court pursuant to Amendment 328 of the Alabama Constitution.

Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
