HB505 Summary

• Proposes constitutional amendment to Alabama Constitution to modify the initial term length for judges appointed to fill vacancies (excluding probate judges).

• Changes the requirement for appointed judges to serve until the first Monday after the second Tuesday in January following the next general election after completing two years in office, or the remainder of the original term, whichever is longer.

• Applies to all judicial offices except probate judges, with specific exceptions for Jefferson County (filled under Amendments 83 and 110) and Shelby, Madison, Wilcox, Monroe, Conecuh, Clarke, Washington, Henry, Etowah, Walker, Tallapoosa, Pickens, Greene, Tuscaloosa, and St. Clair counties.
