Municipalities may develop and implement an electronic process for processing and recording business license renewals for business and nonprofit entities.

Municipalities may contract with vendors to provide electronic processing services including online filing, recording, payment by credit or debit card, and related administrative services.

Vendors must collect all recording fees and remit fees applicable to the municipality, including associated data, at least twice per month.

Electronic systems must allow users to complete and submit applications electronically, determine additional required forms, deliver approved licenses electronically or by mail per applicant preference, and include an informational webpage about state and municipal licensing requirements.

Businesses paying license fees in 100 or more Alabama municipalities may elect to use traditional procedures for obtaining, renewing, and paying fees through mail or hand-delivery.
