HB600 Summary

• Increases the Alabama Job Creation and Military Stability Commission board membership from 19 to 20 members by adding the Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs as a member.

• Commission membership includes the Lieutenant Governor as chair, President Pro Tempore of the Senate and Speaker of the House as vice chairs, plus two representatives each from House and Senate, state officials, retired military leaders, and civic leaders from Alabama's four major military communities.

• Members serve four-year terms and may be reappointed for unlimited terms; commission must meet at least annually and hold organizational meeting by August 31, 2017.

• Commission studies and evaluates Department of Defense personnel, assets, equipment, and infrastructure in Alabama to ensure military stability and promote job creation without altering existing military community organizations or task forces.

• Appointing authorities must coordinate to ensure commission membership reflects racial, gender, geographic, urban, rural, and economic diversity of the state; commission must submit annual reports to Legislature beginning in 2018.
