HB619 Summary

• Amends Section 32-9-29 of the Alabama Code to authorize the Department of Transportation to issue annual commercial wrecker emergency tow permits allowing tow trucks to transport disabled, damaged, abandoned, or wrecked commercial vehicles that exceed maximum weight, width, length, or height limits.

• Director of Transportation may establish permit limits, permitting methods, and fees for combinations of commercial wreckers and towed disabled or abandoned vehicles by rule.

• Director may authorize exceptions to permit requirements or waive permits under emergency, exigent, or other extraordinary conditions.

• Permit fees collected are paid to the Public Road and Bridge Fund.

• Effective date is the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
