• Alabama Legislature commends Dr. Richard D. Cummings for outstanding professional achievement in glycoscience research and development.

• Dr. Cummings is the S. Daniel Abraham Endowed Professor of Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, founder and Director of the Harvard Medical School Center for Glycoscience, and Director of the National Center for Functional Glycomics.

• Dr. Cummings received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University (1980) and held academic positions at University of Georgia, University of Oklahoma, and Emory University before joining Harvard in 2015; he has trained over 30 Ph.D. and Master's students and 60 post-doctoral fellows.

• Dr. Cummings has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles, holds 30 patents, co-founded Selexys Pharmaceuticals in 2002 (purchased by Novartis for $665 million in 2016), and received honors including Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2014) and President of the Society for Glycobiology (2001).
