Recognizes Deputy Justin Billa as a nominee for the 2019 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, the state's highest law enforcement award for extraordinary courage in the line of duty.

Deputy Billa died on February 20, 2018, while responding to a crime in the Ridge Road West area of Mobile, Alabama, where he was shot by Robert Hollie, the ex-husband of a deceased victim.

Hollie fired multiple shots at officers while they waited for additional personnel to establish a perimeter around his residence; one round struck Deputy Billa, who was transported to the hospital where he died.

SWAT members subsequently found Hollie deceased inside the residence from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Alabama House of Representatives honors Deputy Billa for his immense bravery and unwavering commitment to protect and serve others.
