House Resolution 279 mourns the death of Charles Dixon Friday and honors his life and contributions to his community.

Charles Dixon Friday was born May 21, 1947, in Selma, Alabama, graduated from Albert G. Parrish High School in 1965, and served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969 as a navigator on USS John F. Kennedy CN 67.

Mr. Friday was deeply involved in Selma community activities including serving as Commander of American Legion Thomas R. Mackin Post 20 for three years, coaching Dixie Youth Baseball, leading the Selma High School Band Booster Club, and participating in the Selma Labor Day raft race where he won "Best of Show" twice.

He was also a member of the Wallace Community College Selma jazz band, theater actor, skilled craftsman specializing in antique furniture renovation and historic home restoration, accomplished musician, abstract artist, and maker of wooden toy cars distributed at Alabama festivals.

The resolution expresses deep sadness at his passing and extends heartfelt sympathy to his family and the many in the community whose grief is shared by the Legislature.
