Commends the University of Montevallo on its President's Outdoor Scholars Program, the first of its kind designed to cultivate industry leaders in the outdoor sector.

Program launched in 2015 and provides scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 annually to students maintaining a 2.5 GPA who participate in fishing and hunting activities.

Participating scholars must attend monthly on-campus meetings, complete relevant coursework, attend lectures, and learn field dressing and preparation of fish and wild game.

Scholars have access to exclusive trips including preserve quail hunting, deep-sea fishing in Florida, guided big game hunts, and duck hunting in the Mississippi Delta, Arkansas, or Louisiana.

Porter James, a program recipient, credits the program with providing career opportunities in the outdoor industry including television production, marketing, video editing, and conservation work.
