SB167 Summary

• Amends Section 9-11-22 to require commercial fishing equipment tags to display information identifying the owner without requiring disclosure of the owner's Social Security number, home address, or other sensitive personally identifying information.

• Directs the Commissioner of Conservation and Natural Resources to adopt rules requiring unique identification numbers or license numbers on commercial fishing equipment instead of sensitive personal data.

• Amends Section 9-11-59 to apply the same privacy protections to trapping equipment, requiring identification tags with unique identification or license numbers rather than personal identifying information.

• Establishes violations of both sections as Class B misdemeanors for fishing equipment violations and misdemeanors with fines of $250 to $2,000 for trapping equipment violations.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
