SB168 Summary

• Amends Section 34-2-32 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to expand the architect registration exemption to include townhomes, duplexes, and other buildings containing single family residence units, regardless of size.

• Exemption applies only when structures are designed and built according to International Residential Codes or other codes adopted in Alabama governing the construction of one and two family dwellings.

• Maintains existing exemptions for farm buildings, utility works, and buildings under 2,500 square feet (excluding schools, churches, auditoriums, and assembly occupancy buildings).

• Preserves provisions allowing professional engineers and architects to perform services incidental to their respective practices without requiring dual registration.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
