AL SB179

Repeals the prohibition on the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court assigning circuit or district judges from Jefferson County to serve in other judicial circuits to address court congestion, delay, case backlog, or other judicial administration needs.

Repeals the prohibition on the presiding judge of Jefferson County from assigning circuit or district court judges within the county to serve in other courts within the county.

Requires judges assigned to serve in other circuits to be reimbursed for necessary travel expenses and maintenance allowances from the State Treasury.

Requires written assignments from the presiding circuit judge to be filed with the Administrative Director of Courts and the clerk or register of the court where assignment is made.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
