• Expands the definition of "firefighter" to include wildland firefighters employed by the Alabama Forestry Commission who are certified by the State Forester as meeting National Wildfire Coordinating Group training standards.

• Establishes the Peace Officers' and Firefighters' Death Benefit Fund to pay compensation awards for injuries or deaths of eligible peace officers and firefighters occurring in performance of duties.

• Provides $350,000 annual automatic appropriation to the fund beginning at the start of each state fiscal year, with a maximum accumulated balance of $1,000,000.

• Directs the State Comptroller to transfer annual appropriations from the General Fund to the Death Benefit Fund within one week of each fiscal year's commencement.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
