SB209 Summary

• Authorizes the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to issue disabled military veterans appreciation saltwater fishing licenses at the same fee rate as disabled military veterans appreciation freshwater licenses for U.S. military veterans certified as 20 percent or more disabled.

• Creates a new disabled three-day saltwater fishing event license effective September 1, 2019, permitting up to 20 disabled residents or nonresidents plus up to 20 assistants to fish for 72 consecutive hours for $100, with additional disabled persons charged $5 each.

• Adds a voluntary $1 check-off option on saltwater fishing license forms to allow licensees to donate to the Division of Marine Resources for fisheries and aquatic habitat research.

• Residents age 64 who purchase an annual resident saltwater fishing license shall receive it on a lifetime basis, with fees deposited to the Alabama Marine Resources Endowment Fund.

• Establishes violations as a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $50 to $250 per offense; becomes effective the first day of the third month following passage and approval.
