SB223 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Section 45-26-130 to allow the Elmore County Commission to assign additional duties to the county engineer or chief engineer beyond road and bridge maintenance.

• Authorizes the county engineer or chief engineer to employ, supervise, and direct deputies and assistants as necessary to perform all engineering duties.

• County commission retains authority to fix the engineer's salary, approve surety bonds, furnish office facilities and equipment, and determine available funding for road, bridge, and ferry construction and maintenance.

• Requires the engineer to make written requisitions for all materials and supplies and maintain an up-to-date inventory of county-owned road machinery and equipment.

• Act became effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor on April 4, 2019 (Senate) and May 14, 2019 (House).
