SB229 Summary

• Amends Section 17-3-8 of the Alabama Code to increase the maximum number of working days the Chambers County Board of Registrars may meet from 120 to 180 working days each fiscal year.

• Removes Chambers County from the group of counties limited to 120 working days and establishes it as a separate category with 180 working days.

• Maintains existing provisions allowing up to 25 of the allotted working days to be used for special registration sessions held outside the courthouse, on Saturdays, or during extended evening hours.

• Requires 10 days' notice prior to any special session through posted bills, newspaper advertisements, or radio/television announcements.

• Becomes effective October 1, 2019, upon passage and approval by the Governor.
