SB252 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Sections 25-9-11, 25-9-12, and 25-9-17 to revise qualification requirements for coal mine foreman and fire boss certifications.

• Establishes new pathways for applicants with college degrees: allows those with bachelor's degrees in mining engineering, geology, or related fields to qualify with reduced practical mining experience requirements (2 years instead of 4 for foreman positions).

• Permits individuals holding valid out-of-state underground coal mine foreman certifications to temporarily serve as a foreman or fire boss in Alabama if they have worked in an Alabama underground mine for at least 30 calendar days and meet Alabama's qualification standards.

• Changes the temporary service period from a maximum of 15 days to service lasting until the date of the next mine foreman examination that the person is eligible to take.

• Effective date: First day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
