SB265 Summary

• Requires the Alabama Historical Commission and Division of Construction Management of the Department of Finance to commission monuments honoring Rosa Parks and Helen Keller on Capitol grounds.

• Rosa Parks statue shall be placed on the West front of the Capitol facing Bainbridge Street; Helen Keller statue shall be placed in an accessible location that disabled persons can readily reach and touch.

• Authorizes use of public and private funds, including in-kind services, to finance the monuments.

• Requires the commission and division to solicit public input and conduct stakeholder consultation to develop placement plans and proposed designs for both monuments.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
