• Licensed wine manufacturers may obtain a wine direct shipper permit from the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to ship up to 24 cases annually (9 liters per case) directly to Alabama residents age 21 or older for personal use only.

• Wine direct shipper permit applicants must file an application, pay a $100 filing fee, and provide proof of current state manufacturer license; annual renewal requires a $50 fee.

• Permittees must label all wine containers with "CONTAINS ALCOHOL: SIGNATURE OF PERSON AGE 21 OR OLDER REQUIRED FOR DELIVERY" and collect and remit all applicable state and local sales, use, and excise taxes.

• Delivery service carriers are authorized to transport and deliver wine shipments on behalf of permitted wine direct shippers without maintaining bills of lading or other cargo documentation beyond package shipping label information.

• Unauthorized direct shipment of wine to Alabama residents without a permit is prohibited and constitutes a Class C misdemeanor; the bill becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval.
