SB 351 Summary

• Revises compensation for retired justices and judges called to temporary or full-time active duty status by amending Sections 12-18-10 and 12-18-61 of the Alabama Code.

• Limits additional compensation for retired appellate court justices/judges on active duty to not exceed 25 percent of the salary they were making at retirement, replacing the previous formula of $250 per month less than current appellate court salary.

• Establishes that retired circuit judges and district judges called to active duty receive additional compensation not to exceed 25 percent of their retirement-time salary.

• Clarifies procedures for performance evaluation and removal from active status, with authority vested in the Chief Justice or presiding judges to determine satisfactory performance of assigned duties.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
