SB412 Summary

• Renames the "Governor's Office of Minority Affairs" to the "Alabama Office of Minority Affairs" and maintains it as a Governor's agency advising on issues affecting minorities in education, health, economics, employment, housing, civil rights, criminal justice, and race relations.

• Authorizes the office to draft policy recommendations addressing minority affairs issues in addition to its advisory functions.

• Allows the director to employ staff pursuant to the State Merit System and to employ and set compensation for up to two non-Merit System staff members without exceeding comparable Merit System classification rates.

• Transfers existing Governor's employees working in the office to the Alabama Office of Minority Affairs with no loss of compensation or benefits.

• Updates the Historic Tax Credit Evaluating Committee membership and related statutes to reflect the renamed office and changes "board" to "committee" terminology.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
