SB44 Summary

• Class 6 municipalities may designate municipal streets and public roads for golf cart operation after determining safety based on traffic speed, volume, and character.

• Golf carts must be inspected and permitted by the municipality, equipped with headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and high visibility markings, and covered by liability insurance with limits equal to motor vehicle requirements.

• Golf carts may only operate on streets with posted speed limits of 25 miles per hour or less, and operators must possess a valid driver's license.

• Municipalities may enact ordinances more restrictive than state requirements or allow less restrictive use for civic events not exceeding 80 hours.

• Unauthorized operation of golf carts in violation of this act or municipal ordinances constitutes a traffic infraction punishable by a fine of up to $50.
