SB5 Summary

• Amends Section 8-26B-14 of the Alabama Code to allow registered athlete agents certified by national athletic associations to pay certain expenses for student athletes and their families before signing an agency contract.

• Certified athlete agents may pay expenses for the athlete, family members, and authorized individuals if the expenses are approved by the national association that certified the agent.

• Expenses must be of a type authorized by the national association, for purposes approved by that association, and for athletes who qualify under the national association's eligibility standards.

• For secondary school athletes, any expense payments must also comply with rules established by the interscholastic association that determines eligibility for that athlete.

• The act became effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
