SB6 Summary

• Allows parents of foreign-born adopted children to petition probate court to correct inaccurate date of birth or place of birth information on Certificates of Foreign Birth.

• Permits the State Registrar to issue a new corrected Certificate of Foreign Birth upon court order.

• Applies to children who automatically acquired U.S. citizenship under the federal Child Citizenship Act and possess a Certificate of Citizenship.

• Requires State Registrar to develop necessary forms for adoptive parents requesting Certificates of Foreign Birth.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage.
