AL SB65

Amends Section 279 of the Alabama Constitution to allow state public officials to take the oath of office with a raised right hand placed upon a religious holy book or a copy of the U.S. Constitution or Alabama Constitution.

Makes this gesture optional at the discretion of the oath taker, rather than mandatory.

Requires the proposed constitutional amendment to be approved by a majority of qualified electors voting in an election held according to Sections 284 and 285 of the Alabama Constitution and state election laws.

Directs election officials to assign a ballot number and include the amendment description on election ballots with Yes/No options for voter approval.
