SB84 Summary

• Alabama Commission on Higher Education Executive Director must convene deans of all public and private higher education teacher preparation programs at least twice each year.

• Meeting topics may include teacher preparation requirements, student academic and social skills development, curricular changes, developmental education, academic program approvals, teacher shortages and compensation, and alternative teacher certification options.

• Executive Director must submit an annual report to the Speaker of the House, President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and Governor on the status of education in the state with recommendations for changes in law, policy, or practice.

• Act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
