SB92 Summary

• Expands the "Joel Willmore Act" to require the Department of Corrections or other agency to notify the Governor, law enforcement, and media outlets within 12 hours when a probationer or parolee with a prior Class A felony conviction, a crime against a child under 12 years old, or serving a life sentence absconds from a residential facility.

• Notification must be sent to the Governor, Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency, local sheriffs and district attorneys, local police chiefs, and electronic media outlets broadcasting within a 75-mile radius of the escape or absconding location.

• Notifications must include the time and circumstances of the escape or absconding, a detailed description of the individual, a recent mug shot, and conviction details.

• Requires the department or agency to post escape notifications on its website within a reasonable timeframe and enter the individual into the National Crime Information Center database within 12 hours.

• The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
