• Commends Donna Burke, Assistant Principal at Robert F. Bumpus Middle School, for being named the 2019 Alabama Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year.

• Burke will represent Alabama in the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) National Assistant Principal of the Year program.

• Burke is recognized for engaging with students at school entry, eliminating stressful situations among students, and regularly checking on teacher well-being.

• She partnered with the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) to bring the Heritage Panel to the school and trained 30 diverse students to teach peers about diversity and acceptance.

• Burke created the Bumpus Embraces Students at Trace Crossing (BEST) program for middle school girls to build leadership skills and self-esteem.
