• Expands the definition of athletic injuries to include any injury or condition sustained by physically active individuals that a physician deems would benefit from athletic training services, beyond just athletes.

• Establishes formal professional relationships between athletic trainers and supervising or referring physicians, requiring written protocols approved by the State Board of Medical Examiners that describe injuries and direct medical interventions.

• Creates an Advisory Council composed of three physicians and three athletic trainers to recommend model practice protocols, establish physician-to-trainer ratios, and designate alternate supervising physicians, subject to approval by both the State Board of Medical Examiners and the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers.

• Increases daily compensation for Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers members from $50 to $100 per day and sets advisory council member per diem at $100 per day.
