HB180 Summary

• Authorizes the Department of Revenue Commissioner to temporarily waive requirements for the International Fuel Tax Agreement (Section 40-17-272) and International Registration Plan (Section 32-6-56) during declared states of emergency or disaster.

• Waivers apply only to motor vehicles engaged in interstate disaster relief efforts traveling to areas where the U.S. President or state governor has declared an emergency or disaster, and only while the declaration is in effect.

• Waivers do not permit vehicles to operate without valid registration and insurance from their base state, exceed weight limits on bridges, or bypass any other legal requirements or restrictions.

• The bill also includes existing authority to waive motor fuel importer, exporter, or transporter licensing requirements during emergencies, with similar limitations on scope and applicability.

• Effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
