AL HB208

Amends Section 13A-11-75.1 of the Alabama Code to allow retired military veterans, active members of the U.S. Armed Forces, and honorably discharged veterans to obtain pistol permits without paying a fee.

Requires applicants to present government-issued identification: retired veterans must show a Veteran Identification Card or DD-214 form, active members must show current military identification, and honorably discharged veterans must show a DD-214 form or Veteran's Record and Report of Separation Honorable Discharge Record.

Permits issued under this section may be renewed without fees as long as the holder continues to meet the conditions for renewal.

Allows the county sheriff to revoke permits if the holder is convicted of or charged with a felony involving moral turpitude, domestic violence in the first or second degree, or similar specified crimes; requires 30-day notice and written notification by registered mail.

Active duty members who resign without honorable discharge or receive dishonorable discharge must immediately forfeit their permit and return it to the sheriff within 30 days; failure to comply constitutes carrying a weapon without a license or carrying a concealed weapon.

Effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
