HB232 Summary

• Amends Section 11-91A-2 of the Alabama Code to add Volunteers of America to the list of entities eligible to participate in the Local Government Health Insurance Program, subject to board acceptance.

• Volunteers of America joins other eligible entities including counties, municipalities, fire districts, various state associations, nonprofit organizations, and authorities that can provide health insurance coverage to their elected officials, full-time employees, and retirees.

• Entities added to the program on or after June 1, 2018 are treated as separate entities with independently established premiums, not grouped with earlier participants.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
