HB35 Summary

• Prohibits public K-12 schools from participating in, sponsoring, or providing coaching staff for interscholastic athletic events scheduled or conducted by athletic associations that allow participation based on gender identity rather than biological sex as indicated on birth certificates.

• Prohibits counties, municipalities, and other local government entities from using or permitting the use of public athletic facilities for interscholastic events that violate the participation restrictions.

• Prohibits state-owned or state-controlled athletic facilities, stadiums, fields, and other property from being used for interscholastic events that allow athletes to compete against athletes of a different biological gender.

• Exempts all restrictions when athletic events specifically permit and allow participation by both biological males and biological females.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
