HB387 Summary

• Amends Section 16-1-44 of the Alabama Code to require mental health awareness training be included in the annual employee training session regarding school lockdown plans, drills, and procedures.

• School principals or their designees must hold an annual training session for all school employees covering the school lockdown plan, emergency drills, and procedures to be conducted during the school year.

• The annual training session requirement applies to all public K-12 schools in Alabama.

• Principals or designees who knowingly neglect or refuse to comply with these requirements are subject to appropriate disciplinary action.

• The act becomes effective August 1, 2020, following passage and approval by the Governor.
