HB 392 Summary

• Requires the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE) to annually collect and post institutional tuition and fee information on its website, replacing the previous audit requirement by ACHE or the Examiners of Public Accounts.

• Expands eligibility for the Police Officer's and Firefighter's Survivor Educational Assistance Program to include dependent natural children born after the death of a law enforcement officer, firefighter, or rescue squad member.

• Expands eligibility to include dependent children (natural or adopted) born or adopted after total disability is declared for law enforcement officers, firefighters, or rescue squad members.

• Maintains existing eligibility for dependent children under age 21 at the time of death or total disability and spouses who have not remarried (with initial enrollment within five years).

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
