HB 40 Summary

• Authorizes the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to issue lifetime hunting, freshwater fishing, and saltwater fishing licenses to disabled U.S. military veterans who are Alabama residents, effective September 1, 2020.

• Disabled military veterans certified 40% or more physically disabled can purchase lifetime hunting licenses for $45 (under 50 years old) or $45 (50 years or older), plus a $1.10 issuance fee.

• Veterans certified 100% service-connected permanently and totally disabled receive lifetime hunting and fishing licenses at no cost, in addition to a $1.10 issuance fee.

• Licenses are non-transferable and limited to state residents only; holders of disabled veteran licenses receive all privileges of the wildlife heritage license.

• The Department may offer combination lifetime licenses for hunting and both fishing types at the combined applicable fees.
