HJR24 Summary

• Creates the Study Commission on Patient Transportation to Health Care to assess transportation needs, available services, and strategies to address gaps in healthcare access.

• Commission consists of 10 members appointed by various entities including the Department of Public Health, Medicaid Agency, Alabama Hospital Association, American Cancer Society, legislature members, Department of Transportation, ride-share and health insurance company representatives.

• Appointments must be coordinated to reflect diversity of gender, race, and geographical areas of the state, with the Speaker of the House notified by September 1, 2020.

• Commission shall hold its initial meeting no later than November 1, 2020 (called by American Cancer Society) and must submit findings and legislative recommendations to the Legislature by January 15, 2021, after which the commission dissolves.

• Members serve without compensation except for travel reimbursement paid according to state law or existing policies.
