AL HJR44

Creates the Joint Interim Committee on State House Conditions to study environmental conditions and physical plant systems of the Alabama State House and make recommendations to the Legislature.

Committee composition includes 3 House members (appointed by Speaker, with 2 from House Legislative Council and at least 1 from minority party), 3 Senate members (2 from Senate Legislative Council appointed by President Pro Tempore, 1 at-large appointed by presiding officer, with at least 1 from minority party), plus Secretary of Senate, Clerk of House, and Director of Legislative Services Agency (or designees).

First meeting must be called before July 1, 2020, with members electing a chair at that meeting; legislative members receive regular legislative compensation, per diem, and travel expenses per Amendment 871 of Alabama Constitution.

Committee shall review Department of Finance's Facility Condition Assessment and study State House environmental conditions, physical plant and utilities systems, and public access/accessibility to committees and legislative meetings, with findings and recommendations due to legislative leaders by December 1, 2020.

Committee dissolves December 1, 2020, with expenses not to exceed $50,000 covered from Legislative Council budget.
