SB1 - Firearms Bill Summary

• Repeals Sections 9-11-304, 13A-11-50, 13A-11-51, 13A-11-52, 13A-11-71, 13A-11-73, and 13A-11-74 of the Alabama Code, eliminating certain restrictions on carrying firearms on property and in motor vehicles.

• Amends Section 13A-11-61.2 to revise firearm carrying restrictions at specific locations, requiring express permission to carry firearms inside police stations, prisons, detention facilities, psychiatric facilities, courthouses, and athletic event facilities.

• Allows persons with valid permits or qualified retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms at schools and professional athletic events, with exceptions for locations with continuous security measures including metal detectors and security personnel.

• Permits employees to store lawfully possessed firearms in locked vehicles parked in public or private parking areas, provided compliance with storage requirements.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and Governor approval.
